3D smileys paved the way to a change in the normal smileys that have bored people to death. Though people are bored, they however, never quit using it. So what explains their popularity despite being so monotonous? Early users invented these smileys about twenty-five years ago, since they realized that the meaning of the sent message was often misunderstood. |
So it needed to be made clear using smileys. Sarcasm was often misunderstood without the use of smileys.
Smileys generally conveyed the meanings which were at times difficult to express in words. Also, as mentioned already, it was used to remove miscommunication. Earlier, only the smiling face was used as a smiley, but later on, there were plethora of icons as such, like the winking one, the sadistic one, laughing, dancing, and many others. There are many people who find these smileys quite silly at times, but without them, conversations these days tend to be dull and boring, so they are only gaining ground with each passing day. So how is such a thing possible?
Technology is the reason behind it. During the late 1990’s, the emoticons were actually losing ground, and then came the 3D smileys which re-invented people’s interest in these icons. They completely took the web by storm, and provided us with an update on many traditional characters we had been grown on. These 3D smileys did not just be at a place and smile, rather they could sing, walk, dance, talk, swim, dive and perform many such unusual tasks which were never thought of smileys. They were loved by people, and were a part of the normal chats in no time at all.
That these smileys were like cartoons, the young generation took to them instantly. Not long after, adults embraced them as well, and using animated icons in conversations became the norm of the day. These icons were very easy to use, which was a great benefit. Many instant messaging services and online forums can use these emoticons just by clicking them. Earlier, the codes of all the smileys had to be remembered to use them, but now with just clicking them, the task has been made much easier. This actually was very helpful as the true meaning of any written text could be more elaborately explained with the help of those smileys. Besides, it also made the conversation lively and fun to be a part of.
There are many reasons behind the success of smileys, and being cute and easy to use are major reasons why they are preferred so much among the youth. As mentioned already, they give clarity to the text message so that makes their use indispensable. So no matter what people say about them, smileys are the order of the day, and due to the ever-advancing technology, in the coming years, we may have many 3D smileys that may be able to perform next-to-impossible tasks, just for our fun and pleasure!
